Fat Brands, the owner of a disparate collection of brands including Fatburger, Johnny Rockets and Fazoli’s, on Thursday named Michael Chachula its new chief information officer.

Chachula will focus on developing technology platforms across the company’s different brands, which include concepts like Pretzelmaker and Twin Peaks.

He comes to the Los Angeles-based company from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, where he was the head of digital and revenue growth and where he focused on point-of-sale, marketing automation and other systems. He previously worked with IHOP and has a career spanning more than 25 years.

Thayer Wiederhorn, Fat Brands’ chief operating officer, said Chachula’s “extensive technology background and industry knowledge will help Fat Brands strengthen our technology system, develop strategic partnerships and support our domestic and international growth.”

Chachula joins a company that has been growing rapidly through a series of acquisitions, including nearly $1 billion worth of deals in 2021 alone—including deals for Great American Cookies owner Global Franchise Brands, as well as Twin Peaks and Fazoli’s. The company now operates 17 brands, most of which are franchise-focused concepts.
