Schumer plans classified briefing for US senators on chips, technology

Semiconductor manufacturing and international engineering will be a target on Capitol Hill upcoming 7 days.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has scheduled an all-senators categorised briefing on international innovation and a proposed invoice to raise U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, in accordance to his place of work.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has already threatened to block the invoice that would provide $52 billion to subsidize U.S. semiconductor producing and enhance U.S. competitiveness with China if Democrats shift forward with a social paying and local weather bill.

The briefing is planned for Wednesday.

White Household spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday the Biden administration needs Congress to shift swiftly, noting Intel Corp introduced it will commit $20 billion to open up semiconductor factories in Ohio “and that could increase to as much as $100 billion” if Congress passes chips subsidies.

The Senate legislation, passed in June 2021, involved $52 billion for chips subsidies and licensed an additional $200 billion to raise U.S. scientific and technological innovation to compete with China.
