A file with the .DWF file extension is a file type developed by Autodesk for the purpose of efficient distribution and communication of rich design data to anyone who needs to view, review, or print design files. Anyone who is a user of AutoCAD programs will know that when working with the design of a complex structure, their file can become so detailed that the size of the file increases to the point that sharing this data can become impossible. A DWF file is a highly compressed version of a CAD file that’s useful for viewing, printing, and transmitting the design without the need for the full version of AutoCAD and how understanding how to use it.
Whenever you double-click a file to open it, Windows examines the filename extension. If Windows recognizes the filename extension, it opens the file in the program that is associated with that filename extension. When Windows does not recognize a filename extension, you receive the following message:

How to Open a DWF file?
To view a DWF file you don’t need to install and have a licenced copy of AutoCAD. You can install the free official Autodesk program called Autodesk Design Review, to view, mark up, print, and track changes. You can read the markups in AutoCAD, change your drawings, change markup status, and republish to DWF or DWFx for further review cycles.
Note: Autodesk Design Review also works with various other file types, including PDF, DXF, and DWG.
If you do not want to install a program like Autodesk Design Review on your PC you can also view the file online for free. The Autodesk online Viewer makes it easy to share views of your designs and collaborate remotely. All you need to do is create a free account first and you can then upload the file to view it.
